An Alphabetic FYI of Second Grade ... in Room 122

Attendance is very IMPORTANT. Please remember that when your child is not here they will be held accountable for any make-up work.  In addition your child misses out on the lesson taught in the classroom to help with the topic.  The lesson will not be retaught. Therefore, it is really important that they come to school, unless they are truly sick and/or family emergency.

Books are key to a magical school year!  Students must read everyday at home, to you or with you.  Our goal is to build reading stamina from 15-20 minutes the first marking period, 20-30 minutes second marking period, 30-40 minutes third and fourth marking period. We are asking that your child read 15 minutes each night. When your child brings a book home, please help them treat it kindly and gently and return it the next day.

Classroom rules:  Try your best, never give up, be respectful to others, learn from your mistakes and have fun.

Daily "Specials"...Gym, Art, Music, Technology and Health and Wellness    Check the page on my website for a schedule.

Extension 1122( goes immediately to voicemail and does not ring in the classroom) e-mail is checked daily but not during class hours- please give any emergency dismissal messages to secretaries in office who will relay them to me. Also please remember that any work missed while absent will be made available upon return.  Much of our learning is now not paperwork and cannot be sent home, however, we do continually review and revisit concepts so a student will have ample opportunity to learn any missed material.

Fundations provides an integrated systematic word study, spelling and handwriting curriculum.

Gym participation requires students to wear sneakers for safe fun and exercise- check daily specials page on my website if you forget!

Homework - Please sign your child's homework assignment book everynight.

am so pleased to be your child's teacher! I will do my best to create

a classroom filled with love, kindness and learning.

Jackets, sweaters, coats, hats etc. should be labeled with your child's name, as so many of them end up, unfortunately, in the lost and found.

Keep a hand sanitizer in your lunch box or book bag.

Lunch and recess is from 11:35-12:20.  Prepaying is the easiest way-this may be done online.  You will receive notice from Mrs. Crabtree when your account has a negative balance.  No lunch is served on half days-the cafeteria is closed, so the children eat from their lunchboxes/bags in the classroom and are dismissed at 12:45.  Eat a good breakfast every day! And try to pack a healthy lunch... lots of brainfood necessary!

Much appreciated help for first day: Please use a Ziploc bag with their name on it for all the small supply items to be used through the year, and we will send a note when supplies in this bag are used up.) Thank you so much!

Notes are needed after absences, and for changes of transportation, and early pick ups, on that day. Please include date and my name on the note (as well as child's full name and your name) as they are sent to the office first thing in the morning, and put back in my mailbox at lunch so that I can get the child in the right place.  If there is no note, I must place the child in their regular dismissal line.

Orders for Scholastic Books may be placed online, with credit card payment.  Click on the quick link on our overview page, and scroll to the bottom of the Scholastic page, where you will find the parent sign in area.  Our classroom activation code is   .  The books come to the classroom, and are sent home with the children each month.  It is a very easy and inexpensive way to encourage a love of books and reading! It also helps to earn our classroom free books, so I do appreciate your participation.

P.T.O. - Please consider joining and supporting our P.T.O. during the year with various fundraisers.

Quotes:  "YOU ARE SO SPECIAL, IN ALL THE WORLD, THERE IS ONLY ONE OF YOU."  Let's treat each other as the unique treasures that we are... and we can make this world a better place.

Restrooms for second graders are located around the corner. Let's remember to follow expectations and return to class quickly as you are missing information when you leave the room.

Second grade will be so much fun!!!

Treats for birthdays must be sent into the office prior to our lunch (11:35), otherwise it will not be permitted.  I will be notified to pick them up when the children are at special, and we will enjoy them at the end of the day. We will keep it simple by singing Happy Birthday with friends while enjoying a small treat.  In addition, please do not send in party invitations to hand out.  Refer to the Magowan School Handbook.

YoU will find it convenient to carry your own individual packet of tissues in your pocket on days when needed.  Please adhere to instructions on school website regarding stay at home policy when sick!

Very much appreciated: please take the time to collect and send in your BOXTOPS FOR EDUCATION- each one is worth a dime! Also save those Campbell's Soup Labels!

Welcome to a wonderful year in second grade, an  eXcellent place to learn and grow.

Your child will be bringing home a S.O.A.R. Binder - Students Organized And Ready.  This binder will be very important to bring to and from school everyday.  It will also help to increase communication between school and home. The binder will include a pouch for notes and/or lunch money, homework assignment book, a ziploc bag for their take-home book, the Magowan folder and useful tools to assist your child.  Please empty the leave at home side of the homework folder everyday.

and Zzzz's are for sleeping:  get 10-12 hours of rest every night for a great day of school!
