Course Description:  This course examines the science behind food and how it relates to nutrition. It demonstrates how the laws of science are at work producing, processing, preparing, and metabolizing food. Students will take an inquiry approach to learning. Students will conduct food lab experiments, conduct independent studies on different topics, and examine how food affects our bodies.

Class fee: $10


Safety and Sanitation Standards in the Food Lab:

1. Students are required to be appropriately dressed in food lab.

 

2. Clean apron (school provided) and chef hat or bandana must be worn over hair in all food labs. Hair is too pulled back and tucked under hat/bandana.

 

3. Fingernails must be kept clean. 

 

4. Non-slip, closed toe shoes must be worn.

 

Supplies needed:

  • Chef hat or bandana to tie around hair and ponytail holders (for longer hair)
  • AVID binder
  • 2 packs of paper plates (no Styrofoam please)
  • 2 Rolls of paper towels
