In our classroom, we watched and listened to a book called “What If Everybody Did That?”  We talked about how we can not always do what we want, when we want.  We also talked about rules and why it is important we have them - we all want to be safe and happy at school! Then the class created their own list of rules for our classroom so everyone can have a great day at school.  The students decided our classroom rules should be:

*  Have control of your body

*  Use walking feet

*  Listen and use nice words

*  Follow directions

*  Raise your hand

 Then we talked about what would happen when we follow all the rules and what could happen if we do not follow our classroom rules.

 If we follow the rules, we have more time for learning and fun.  We will have more time for Centers with friends.  We will also earn pom poms in our class jar for a big reward like a movie and popcorn party or bring a stuffed animal to school!  We will also get praise from Miss Ludwig and Miss Lisa and keep their smiles on too!

 If we can not follow the rules, we will miss out on some learning and fun.  In our classroom, we have a stoplight. Every child has their own clothespin with their name on it. If your child follows our classroom rules all day and keeps everyone safe and happy (a green day), they will receive a sticker on their folder at the end of the day.  If your child chooses to not follow our classroom rules and receives multiple warnings, I will ask them to move their clothespin to yellow. If they are moved to yellow, they will be asked to slow down, go over our classroom rules, and miss 1 minute of playtime. If your child continues to choose to not follow our classroom rules and is warned after they are on yellow, they will move their clothespin to red. Red means that your child will miss 5 minutes of playtime and I will be contacting you to discuss how your child had a difficult day following our classroom rules. When your child comes home, ask them if they had a green day. If you have any questions please email me at [email protected], or call me at ext. 111. Thank you!

 PLEASE emphasize with your child the importance of following rules in the classroom and all other areas in our school, like specials and on the playground.
