Here are some helpful suggestions for developing mathematical concepts and language arts literacy:

Math

*Help your child master his/her basic addition

and subtraction facts

*Review skills and concepts taught in class

*Have your child make up story problems, and then have them solve them

*Find opportunities to discuss mathematical concepts (Ex. What shape is that stop sign?)

*Understand place value to 1,000

*Count by 5's and 10's

*Compare numbers

 

Language Arts

*Provide plenty of reading materials for your child

*Encourage your child to write in a journal

*Ask your child about their day

*Read, read, read!!!!!

*Ask your child to read signs, menus, directions, and other text found in their daily lives
