In addition to the Go Math series, students are also using an individualized online math program called Front Row. This computer based program works with each child at their own "just right" math level, custom fitting it to each child's needs. As they work through math skills on the computer, they earn coins. These coins add up and can be used at various points along the way to create and decorate their very own avatar, a pig that they name. In the same vein, when they answer questions incorrectly, they lose coins as well.
As well as math, students can also access language arts materials on this website. Students read stories and answer questions that I assing them based on their reading level. Students also earn coins for this section of Front Row.
Not only, are the children given time in school to work on Front Row, but they are also able to access it from home and can work there as well. Therefore, if your child has access to a computer, they should take advantage o fit and practice at home as often as possible. I would repsectfully ask that you allow them to work indepdendently if they are working from home. The computer moves the children along as they display their mastery of skills and progresses them automatically. If they are receiving assistance, their results will be skewed, and they may move along to new skills before they are ready.
