My philosophy of education is very much my philosophy on life. Every day is a blank slate and we have the power to make it what we want it to be. I am a firm believer that the only restrictions in education are the ones we place on ourselves. Every child can learn and it is my goal to find the style of learning that best fits them. Within any lesson I try to incorporate a kinesthetic piece where students are working with a hands on activity, a visual component that breaks down a concept in a more concrete method, and an auditory outlet that is usually linked to songs, digital books, or acronyms.

The classroom should be a democratic place where students have the opportunity to share their thoughts not only on the subject matter but how the classroom should run. For example, we create the Class Promise Contract where the students and teacher create the rules of the classroom. This gives the students the ability to help foster the type of environment that will help them to flourish throughout the year. Every students signs their name at the end and pledges to uphold our class promise to one another.

Lastly, communication is key. I like to think that I have an open door policy with the families of our class. The Remind App is a great way to keep the connection between home and school open. Here, families can list any concerns or questions they may have. The app is also my way of telling families how great their child is doing or to set up a conference time.   Together, we can make every year a successful and flourishing school year.
