English II / English IIE:

 

This course is required to graduate.  The emphasis of this course is on reading and writing.  Short stories, cinematic techniques, nonfiction essays, poetry, drama and the novel will all be studied.  Students will be required to write multiple essays and complete research  with MLA documentation.  Students may also be required to read novels outside of class.  Regular vocabulary, grammar and writing assignments will occur within the context of the literary selections to help students prepare for the LEAP 2025 test.

 

This course will cover the following units/ writing workshops:

 

First semester:

 

Unit 1:  The Power of Argument / Essay writing & Argumentative essay

Unit 2:  Persuasion in Literature / Narrative essay

Unit 3:  Poetry

 

Second semester:

 

Unit 4:  Voice in Synthesis / Literary analysis essay

Unit 5:   Praise/Mock/Mourn / Oral recitation

 

 

 

 

Honors only: The emphasis of this course is also on reading and writing with a more intensive focus on literature, vocabulary and writing.  Additional homework and reading assignments are required.
