Borrowing a School Instrument

William Shemin Midtown Community school is fortunate to have a very complete collection of musical instruments for students to borrow for free including:

  • Woodwinds - flutes, clarinets, and alto saxophones
  • Brass - trumpets and trombones
  • Percussion - Bell kits!
  • Electronic Music - MIDI Keyboard

instrument availability changes each year - once a student borrows a school instrument that instrument is assigned to that student for the complete duration of their participation, which could be from grade 4 through grade 8! Therefore each year Mr. Puchinsky will take instruments from students that have either graduated, transferred, or dropped out of the band/orchestra, clean them, and have them re-distributed to new students.

When completing your school request form online, please make three different choices and Mr. Puchinsky will do his best to get you your first choice. Parents and students will be contacted to discuss their options if an instrument is not available.

Please note that if you wish to play Percussion (drums) you must purchase your own drums sticks (size 5A) and your own practice pad (at least 10inches in diameter) OR rent a percussion kit from Elefante.

Please note that all instruments will be thoroughly cleaned before being assigned to a new student. If you have any concerns please contact Mr. Puchinsky at [email protected].
