For our first unit in Science, we will be studying the scientific method, as well as safety when working with experiments.  Please assist your child with everyday learning opportunities by helping him/her to ask "good" inquiries (that do not have just one words answers), and encourage him/her to look at information provided to determine if an answer is possible.  Additionally, students should create questions about provided information.  For example, if students read that a certain area of land has eroded, a good inquiry may be to ask what contributes to the erosion or how fast is the eroding taking place.  An inappropriate question would be to ask what phase the moon is in while doing the research.....

After this brief unit, we will study weathering and erosion a great deal, with emphasis on Hurricanes.

Information about the SLU Lab School 4th grade Science Fair will be given to students in October.
