Creative Writing Checklist

 

ü  ” Have I written an interesting hook?  Does it encourage readers to want to continue reading?

 

ü  Do I introduce my topic in my opening paragraph?

 

ü  Did I give my story an interesting title?

 

ü  Do I offer readers the opportunity to create a vivid picture in their mind?

 

ü  Are there any nouns in my story that could use more description?  Can I add more adjectives to my essay?

 

ü  Have I completed a spell check?

 

ü  Have I read my story aloud so I can listen for errors or problem sentences?

 

ü  Have I asked someone to read my story and give me feedback?

 

ü  When typing my story, did I indent all of my paragraphs and leave two spaces in-between periods?

 

ü  Does my story make sense?  Do I move from one idea to the next smoothly?

 

ü  Is my story complete?  Do I have enough information?  What questions can I ask myself about my essay that might need more elaboration?

 

ü  Do I offer a “snappy” ending?  Does my conclusion offer a new idea, humor, or a “catchy” phrase?
