Many parents think, "How can I help my child be successful?" 6th grade is a transition year. This is your child's last year in Elementary School, yet they are technically in Middle School. Frog Pond's 6th grade is departmentalized. That means that your child will see 4 or 5 teachers who are Middle School Certified in their subject area. Next year, your child is off to Pinelands! This is an exciting and interesting (to say the least!) time in your lives. Three of my own children have come through 'The Pond,' and this is my third year teaching 6th grade. If anyone knows what you are going through - it's me!!

Here's my advice:

  • Ask your child how their day was! They may not always have a plethora of information for you, but you never know.
  • Ask them for any school flyers. If they don't have anything, please make sure they are bringing them home! Many students miss out on the fun here at The Pond, or their parents had no idea about Back to School Night and other important events. We are distributing the flyers. They just don't always make it home in time.
  • Don't clean out their binders! DO organize their binders - WITH THEM! Keep each subject in each section. Many times, they will have a 'Binder Check' in different subject areas, and that counts as a classwork grade. Other times, they may use their notes for a test. Teachers will allow student's class time, and will give directions as to what may be discarded.
  • Make sure they are up to date on their Reading Logs!
  • Help your child with their assignments!
  • Check the HW website daily and their HW planners, too. Homework and Events are Updated Daily on the 6th Grade News Website! Click here for access.
