6. Once people learned to farm they could settle in one place. As time passed, they began to domesticate plants and animals, ensuring themselves of a steady supply of food. These settlements sometimes grew into cities where surplus food was stored for later use. Due to the presence of this surplus food, family size increased, people were generally healthier, life spans lengthened, and some people were able to become artisans.
